IP Interent Protocol address thats the reason why you get internet on your PC. If you are in the office you may be given an IP address. But what if you are using interent at home. Here you are assigned IP address by your service providers dynamically. DHCP is the protocol used by the ISP's to assign oyu IP addresses.

Now you may ask why do you need to know your IP. Then heres the answer?? There are some applications that requires that you know your IP address viz. Remote desktop... Provided by Windows XP.

Remote desktop is among the finest applications of Windows XP. using this application you can connect to a remote desktop (PC) by just providing the information of the IP address. Ofcourse this requires that both the PC's (the remote and the host) are connected to the internet.using this application one can access the remote desktop completely (remote ddektop should be ON). Thus sitting in New Jersey one can access the computer in Mumbai.... INCREEDIBLE isnt it.....
